Discover a core pillar of the NYU Tisch Graduate Acting Program: The Miller Voice Method (mVm)

This dynamic course introduces you to mVm’s repeatable steps and exercises that:

  • Build presence & spontaneity

  • Free the body and voice for deeper listening and authentic play

  • Seamlessly Integrate breath, mindfulness, and intention into every moment on stage

  • Build a deep relationship to text and space so you can focus on the most important part of performance-- listening and living.

mVm helps you actually facilitate more of those ineffable magical moments in performance…

grounding you through clear, practical, repeatable steps—offering actors ownership over their process.

What we’ll cover:

The Science of Compelling Performance: The Attention Model

& mvm Foundations

  • The secret relationship between audience and performer—once you see this you can’t unsee it!

  • We’ll train every class in Foundational mVm exercises giving you daily work to open the Body & Voice for Authenticity & Impact.

Text Transfusion & Scene Integration

  • TT is mVm’s way of integrating text into the full mind (body and mind) allowing the actor to ACTUALLY listen on stage no matter how spontaneous things become in the moment. You train in the body, not on the page.

  • Scene Integration is a layer by layer process: from TT to full blown scene using exercises that intergate the space, your partner, pitch & rhythm, tasks, and duress resulting in a full embodied performance that feels like “people talking”. Actor-ness vanishes.
